Digital theraphy: ACTIVE the new wellness coaching app

ACTIVE is a personalized Italian coaching application for prevention and wellbeing dedicated to users and healthcare professionals. It is developed by Sensibilab and other health and medical organizations

A personalized coaching application, useful on two sides: for users, as a digital training guide with “health pills”; for researchers and healthcare professionals, as a useful data platform to verify the effectiveness of the tool in improving/maintaining wellness and for designing new prevention initiatives aimed at the community. This is ACTIVE, a digital app developed by researchers from Sensibilab – Laboratory of Sensors and Biomedical Systems of the Lecco Campus of Politecnico di Milano, ASST Lecco, ATS Brianza, and Villa Beretta – Rehabilitation Hospital of Ospedale Valduce.

A motivational app for an healthy lifestyle

The project is funded by Fondazione Cariplo and Regione Lombardia. The development of the app is part of a broader initiative called ActivE³ – Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday, a Major Emblematic Project funded by Fondazione Cariplo and Regione Lombardia, aimed at promoting an active lifestyle through the use of technology.

With ACTIVE, presented in mid-February in Lecco, a clinical study phase involving 200 healthy individuals aged 60-80 years over the next 18 months is now underway.

The study will be validated by screening the participants’ health status and will include introductory questionnaires on health and nutrition, motor, psychometric, and neuropsychological tests, blood samples, functional assessments to evaluate the effects of app usage on overall health.

The ACTIVE app will serve as a motivational tool to encourage less active participants to become more active and to stimulate those already active to maintain a healthy lifestyle, providing feedback on their activity and personalized suggestions.

Medicine of the future: Digital Therapies and Medicine 5P

We are approaching the new era of digital therapies,” comments Professor Giuseppe Andreoni, scientific director of the Sensibilab laboratory. “Today, within the Active3 project, we are beginning the experimentation process of a prevention service based on an app promoting and monitoring active and nutritionally balanced lifestyles for the population over 60. Thanks to Fondazione Cariplo, Regione Lombardia, and the network of technological and clinical partners, we are developing an integrated system in the area that we hope can be used and disseminated even beyond the end of the project in favor of a real Medicine 5P (preventive, predictive, participatory, personalized, and psychosocial) of the future.”
